Am proud that both continue to flourish, while serving their communities with distinction. Key lessons learned as a manager: After 29 years away in cor- porate life, then 38 years back in Maine in small business ownership, my offering: Listen. It's difficult to learn about what's going on if one insists on doing all the talking. Interest, expressed by appropriate questions, will encourage associ- ates to be more comfortable with the inevitable who, what, where, when, why, so. Praise good performance publicly, discuss poor performance privately with the associate or team. Advice to Maine's next generation of business leaders: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" still remains great advice. What's next: Tomorrow.
