Key lessons learned as a manager:
• Articulate a clear vision, show conviction and align people to
that vision.
• Connect people to purpose. Make sure the goals of the firm go
beyond the economic ones and ensure employees can see the
purpose behind your strategy to really engage your team.
• Learn how to tell a story. Learn to convey your thoughts and
ideas through stories to increase meaning, understanding and
recall with your team. Don't just talk to them, tell them a story.
Advice to Maine's next generation of business leaders: Learn
people's names and make sure they feel special as you grow your firm.
What's next: Making sure the next generation of leadership is being
developed to take our firm to new levels as a fully integrated national
firm. We have expanded to 32 offices from Bangor to San Diego. We
need to continue to grow while sustaining our culture, and learn how
to embrace the incredible digital transformation of our business.
