Key lessons learned as a manager: • Set a standard of excellence. • Surround yourself with smart, capable people and help them work together to achieve the goals of the organization. • Don't be afraid to make mistakes, and when you make one, learn from it and move on. Advice to Maine's next generation of business leaders: Value and maintain interpersonal connections and communication — don't simply rely on technology. Personal interaction is extremely important. Get to know your colleagues, your customers and your competitors. Kindness matters. What's next: I hope to stay a part of this team as long as I can con- tinue to make a positive contribution. As an organization, we want to continue to support and grow the Downeaster as a Brunswick to Boston connection, and also encourage people to use it for travel to and within Maine. We also want to explore ways to improve regional connectivity through an improved public transportation network that supports the economic and environmental goals of the state.
