Key lessons learned as a manager: • Don't rush to make impor- tant decisions and consider all possible outcomes when making those decisions. • Trust your judgment. You may not be right 100% of the time but you didn't get to where you're at by not having good judgment. • Value the people in your team/organization. We all have different roles within the organization that require varying skill sets to accomplish the organization's objectives. As a manager, you need to make sure you have the right mix of talent on your team to be successful. Advice to Maine's next generation of business leaders: Be open and aware to change. e way we conduct business today is not the same as it was 10 years ago and it won't be the same 10 years from now. As a business leader, you must adapt your business model to meet the needs of your clients, customers or members. What's next: Two years ago, we expanded into the Bangor market by joining forces with the former Eastern Maine Medical Center FCU. After merging operations, we set about looking for a new branch loca- tion in that area. I'm happy to report that we recently opened a new branch at 713 Broadway in Bangor. Our goal is to grow our business in this new location while also growing business in our other locations. David Desjardins is president and CEO of Acadia Federal Credit Union, which has 81 employees.
