What he is doing today: I am retired from my position at the
Opportunity Alliance. Currently enjoying spending time with family,
grandchildren and various volunteer opportunities in the community.
Key lessons learned as a manager:
• Be clear with your expectations and know your job is to help
them to be successful. If they are successful, you will be as well.
• Communicate, communicate, communicate.
• Truthful feedback on job performance and support to improve
are main ingredients for a great workforce.
Advice to Maine's next generation of business leaders: Be
steadfast with your vision but flexible with how it gets implemented.
Be present with your staff, face to face opportunities are critical. Don't
hide behind emails and social media to communicate with your staff.
Remember, culture eats strategy for breakfast.
What's next: Continue my volunteer work in nonprofit governance,
community advisory committees and mentoring social service CEOs.
