Journal's biweekly
print magazine is not
meant to be a breaking
news publication.at
is what WBJournal.com is for, along with
our social media and newsletters.
However, as the global and local
reaction to the coronavirus pandemic
began to spread prominently in mid-
March, it felt wrong to not at least include
something in these pages.
Aer all, with all the conference
cancellations, healthcare responses,
school closures, travel restrictions, and
stock market volatility – not to mention
the large number of people getting sick
and potentially dying – the business
impact of the coronavirus could be wide
ranging over a significantly long period
of time.
So, you'll see on page 4 our story
about how a Worcester County woman
has tested positive for the coronavirus
and much of the initial reaction of
Central Massachusetts businesses, which
includes two conference cancellations
or postponements and several regional
colleges switching to online classes and
closing residence halls.
is was the most up-to-date news
when this WBJ edition was sent to be
printed at 1 p.m. ursday.
Yet, I'm certain by the time this
issue reaches your hands, many more
developments around coronavirus will
have occurred.
Between my departure from the office
on Wednesday night to my arrival home,
an entire NBA basketball season had
been suspended and travel to Europe was
extremely restricted.
For future WBJ editions, likely starting
with the one coming out March 30, we
will provide more in-depth coverage
of how this pandemic will impact your
business in Central Massachusetts both in
the short and long terms.
WBJournal.com will continue to
provide all the up-to-the-minute
information about the business impact
stemming from the coronavirus.
For now, as the coronavirus spreads
and the business impact remains
uncertain, simply stay as safe as possible.
Wash your hands for 20 seconds (I
I N T H I S I S S U E
sign "Happy Birthday" twice, even though
it sounds lame); don't touch your face (or
stroke your beard); and tell your employees
to stay home if they are feeling unwell.

CORRECTION: A WBJ Hall of Fame story in the March 2 edition
incorrectly said Karen A. Koller worked with then Gov. Paul Cellucci
to number the exits on Route 2. Koller actually worked with then
Gov. Michael Dukakis on that project.
