The service was already available in southern Maine and in the Lakes Region, central and southern New Hampshire. Southern Maine Community College in South Portland entered into a new partnership to offer programming that will provide skills training for STRIVE U students. The agreement will provide program- ming for 14 students starting this summer and continuing through the 2020-21 academic year. STRIVE U is a program offered through PSL Services/STRIVE, a nonprofit in South Portland that helps young people with intellectual disabilities live with dignity and respect as ac- tive members of the community. The Maine Census Outreach Fund 2020, a collaborative fund- ing effort supported by the Maine Philanthropy Center in Portland, awarded 14 nonprofits with grants totaling $170,000 to support the participation of hard-to-count com- munities in the 2020 Census. Carnaval ME organizers announced that WinterKids, an organization that creates opportunities for children to be active, vibrant and healthy in the outdoors, will be the nonprofit beneficiary of the inaugu- ral three-day festival taking place on Portland's Eastern Promenade from Jan. 30 to Feb. 2. U.S. Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King announced that the town of Kittery received $500,000 from the National Endowment for the Humanities to support the renovation and expansion of Rice Public Library. Volk Packaging Corp., a sheet plant in Biddeford, announced the acquisition of a JS Machine flexo folder-gluer. The corporation said it is the first company in the U.S. to have the piece of machinery pro- duced by the Chinese company.
