New York- based Sun Equity Partners, a privately held real estate investment and devel- opment firm acquired the mall in May, paying $3.2 million. e mall opened in 1969 and has a number of vacancies. e new owners got approval from the city's planning board to dedicate 95 of the mall's more than 1,000 parking spaces to the 20,115-square-foot restaurant lot, a requirement necessary to list it for sale. e move is a "first step" to revitalize the 214,900-square-foot mall, said Jim Fisher of Northeast Civil Solutions Inc., representing owners. Maritime Academy's ship sails in Up to $300 million has been approved by U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee to pay for a new training vessel for Maine Maritime Academy. e school's current training ship, the TS State of Maine, is nearly 30 years old. e ves- sel is designed specifically for training purposes, with eight classrooms, a full training bridge, lab spaces and an audi- torium. It is also designed to respond to national disasters, as the TS State of Maine did in response to Hurricane Katrina. e ship includes two separate engine rooms providing significant spaces for engine training. Plans call for the ship to berth up to 1,000 people in times of humanitarian need. e ship will also have roll-on/roll-off capabil- ity and container storage, full hospital facilities and a helicopter landing pad.
