SERVICE LOCATIONS Coastal fishing communities in Hancock and Washington Counties, Maine Maine Center for Coastal Fisheries 2020 GOALS 1. Improve our understanding of the status and recovery of the groundfish complex in the Eastern Gulf of Maine by implementing a "Sentinel Survey in collaboration with fishermen, University scientists and others. 2. Advocate for policy improvements for Alewife fishery by instructing towns in sample collection and assessment of the local fishery to build evidence for more sustainable co-management of the fishery. 3. Help sustain coastal fishing communities through education and engage- ment of fishermen of all ages so they are better prepared to address the chal- lenges that will emerge due to ecosystem and demographic change. 4. Develop a research agenda to inform ecosystem-based fisheries management in eastern Maine through the Eastern Maine Coastal Current Collaborative (EM3C). FUNDRAISING EVENTS/OPPORTUNITIES 1. Support the Eastern Maine Skipper Program by sponsoring a student, a school program, a cohort day or final presentation held in May at regional venues across Hancock and Washington Counties. 2. Fly your business name and logo on a sponsor flag outside our Stonington office throughout the summer as our staff joins volunteer fishermen for Sentinel Survey research trips. 3. Sponsor the Bagaduce River alewife count with a banner displayed at our office. 4. Tickets for Tall Tales, Fish Tails and Damn Lies – July 2020 will be available for purchase in May. 5. Grand Opening Celebration of the Discovery Wharf interpretive center at the Stonington office in May. Our programs rely on financial support from sponsorships and events. Maine Center for Coastal Fisheries sends appeal letters in early summer and late fall. 2. Newsletters are mailed in the spring and winter. 3. A monthly e-newsletter provides program and calendar updates. 4. Businesses are able to provide support through a growing selection of sponsorships, that provide exposure in Hancock and Washington Counties, as well as at the annual Fishermen's Forum held in March at the Samoset Resort in Rockport. 5. We are in need of a small, trailer ready workboat for fieldwork that we con- duct with our community partners. 6. In-kind donations of fishing gear, GoPro cameras and other related sup- plies are appreciated. Please call first to speak with staff regarding all in-kind donations.
