Source: Worcester County Registry of Deeds, Massachusetts Secretary of the Commonwealth — Compiled by Zachary Comeau, WBJ staff writer Marlborough launching commuter rail shuttle Marlborough on Sept. 16 will begin a free shuttle to and from the Southbor- ough MBTA commuter rail station to help commuters and others better use the area's train network. e shuttle will bring riders from the Apex Center of New England on Route 20 and the Marlborough Hills area, where a designated area will allow free parking, to the Southborough station. e shuttle will be free, with support from state and city funding. It is slated to run for a one-year trial period, with Marlborough Mayor Arthur Vigeant requesting local funding in July. e shuttle is a response to concerns from residents and companies about the lack of transportation options for com- muters to and from Marlborough. Cultivate purchases land in Uxbridge business park Cultivate, one of the early players in Massachusetts' recreational cannabis industry, has purchased land in an Ux- bridge business park to build a cultiva- tion facility to supplement its existing Leicester operations. Sam Barber, president of Cultivate, told WBJ the company purchased the land for $2 million from the owners of the 176-acre Campanelli Business Park. e company had been considering building a facility of up to 130,000 square feet, but Cultivate will likely split that between Uxbridge and Leicester, the company's home base where a similar facility is planned. First building demolished on Polar Park site e first demolition of buildings at the Polar Park baseball stadium site in Worcester has begun, started on Aug. 22 with the razing of a small warehouse at 50 Washington St. at building, four others and a por- tion of another must be demolished to make room for the $101-million ballpark to eventually be the home of the Worces- ter Red Sox, the Boston Red Sox Triple-A affiliates relocating from Pawtucket. e building in question is proposed to be a small parking lot. Developer buys Kelley Square building for $1.2M Edward Murphy, who has purchased and rehabbed properties around Worcester, has bought a mixed-use building on Millbury Street just off Kelley Square for $1.2 million. e property at 23 Millbury St., which includes European Bakery & Pastry, European Cafe & Deli, and nine upper-floor apartments, sold for well above its assessed value of $697,800, with representatives of seller North- east Private Client Group saying they received multiple offers. e deal closed Aug. 1. Murphy said he normally acquires distressed properties that require more work, but he said 23 Millbury St. doesn't fall into that category. e building is in good condition, but its apartments have been rented at rates 50% to 60% below today's market rates, he said.
