48 Hartford Business Journal • August 5, 2019 • www.HartfordBusiness.com 40 UNDER FORTY 2019 A manda Roy is the commu- nity programs manager at the Greater Hartford Arts Council, a regional arts organization whose mission is to inspire all people to participate and invest in the arts. Roy develops community programs that make the arts more accessible and engage individuals in creating art alongside professional artists. She also creates capacity-building programs that provide professional support to artists and arts organizations across the Greater Hartford region. What's been your biggest professional accomplishment so far in your career? Designing and implementing com- munity programs that serve a number of communities. From creating cohort programs for small, under-represented organizations, to activating spaces with music, dance and visual arts, I've been able to grow the portfolio of programs the Arts Council has to serve artists, nonprofits and the community at large. How are you involved in the community? I support the local arts scene as much as possible. Contributing to the next generation is important to me. I'm able to do that by mentoring high school students at the Connecticut River Academy. The work I do at the Arts Council is all about community. What do you like to do outside of work? My work is an extension of my pas- sion. I consider myself an artist and I enjoy supporting the local arts scene as much as I can. I love to canoe, hike and cook. I also play the drums. Four reasons why you deserve to be a 40 Under Forty: • Visionary for programs that bring people together and elevate the city of Hartford. • Advocate for nonprofit organiza- tions and artists. • Passionate, dedicated supporter of the arts inside and outside of work. • Invested in working with the next generation. FUN FACT I'm working on canoeing in all 50 states, plus D.C. and Puerto Rico.
