New Aer Lingus plane
debuts at Bradley
Aer Lingus is switching out the aircraft that flies
a route between Bradley International Airport and
Dublin, Ireland, increasing the number of available
passenger seats.

plane, an update from the Boeing 757-200 planes that
currently flies the route, said Kevin Dillon, executive
director of the Connecticut Airport Authority (CAA),
which oversees Bradley.
The new plane has 184 seats, Dillon said, seven
more than are currently available to passengers, and
burns less fuel than the planes being switched out.
The new plane comes as Aer Lingus' Bradley
passenger traffic is up 8.2 percent through the first five
months of 2019, with 27,387 passengers departing
from or landing at Bradley from Dublin, according to
CAA data. The route accounts for just over half the
passengers who flew on international flights to or from
Bradley in the months of January to May.
CT grocers nix plastic bags
ahead of law change
Several grocers in Connecticut eliminated plastic
bags to coincide with a new law that requires them
to charge customers for their use.
Grocery stores on Aug. 1 began charging
customers a 10 cent fee for plastic bags as part of
a new law aimed at preserving the environment by
reducing the use of plastic materials.
The law phases out single-use plastic bags
entirely by July 2021.
But grocers including Stop &
Shop, Big Y World Class Market
and Highland Park Market aren't
waiting.
They all recently announced
plans to eliminate plastic-bag use
immediately.
Cheshire developers eye
mixed-use project
A pair of Cheshire developers is looking to build
a sprawling mixed-use development on two local
vacant properties.
The proposal by Miller Napolitano Wolff LLC
and Tri-Star Development LLC scored a major
recent victory as the town's Planning and Zoning
Commission overwhelmingly approved their
subdivision application requesting to split 1953 and
2037 Highland Ave. into eight lots.
The preliminary plans show a variety of potential
uses for the land including a 150-room hotel,
senior-living facility, fitness center, medical offices,
convenience store, restaurant, residential housing
and retail space.
