28 Hartford Business Journal • August 5, 2019 • www.HartfordBusiness.com 40 UNDER FORTY 2019 J anette Edwards oversees daily op- erations of The Hospital of Central Connecticut and MidState Medical Center, with direct responsibility over 20 different departments and service lines. She also partners with leadership across HHC to develop new programs and services. Edwards has been a part of HHC for 12 years, and has held multiple roles fo- cused on driving systemization through the reduction of variation across clinical and non-clinical functions, strategic planning, and the development of part- nerships and initiatives. What's been your biggest professional accomplishment so far in your career? Since I assumed the vice presi- dent role, Hartford HealthCare has achieved record regional growth and financial results, improved clinical outcomes, and realized patient- experience scores that are now some of the best in the state. Building a strong team and driving engagement among patients, employees and phy- sicians have been the critical factors in achieving these outcomes. How are you involved in the commu- nity? I have served on multiple boards dedicated to strengthening families and empowering women. I served as a board member (including multiple leadership positions) of the Madonna Place in Nor- wich for seven years, and currently serve on the board of the New Britain YWCA. What do you like to do outside of work? I love to cook, ski, entertain, travel, golf, and I escape to the ocean every chance I get. I love to spoil my four- year-old niece. Above all, I love to spend time with my husband James; we go exploring by taking 'adventure drives' to new places with no set roadmap. Four reasons why you deserve to be a 40 Under Forty: • One of the youngest senior execu- tives at HHC, obtaining my first executive role at age 32. • A strategic partner who led the system-wide operational efficiency process, generating more than $98 million in savings or revenue en- hancement in less than two years. • A compassionate leader who be- lieves in mentoring and develop- ing the next generation of health- care executives. • Played a pivotal role in improving the financial, growth and patient experience metrics within Hart- ford HealthCare's Central Region through leveraging strategic part- nerships and strong teamwork. FUN FACT My first job was as a roller-skating car hop waitress. I was really good at it, too!
