www.HartfordBusiness.com • August 5, 2019 • Hartford Business Journal 27 40 UNDER FORTY 2019 J ohn Tanski is a highly skilled courtroom advocate. Clients rely on Tanski to help them navigate complex commercial disputes. After graduating from Glastonbury High School, Tanski earned a bachelor's degree from Princeton University and a law degree from Columbia Law School. He clerked on the U.S. Court of Ap- peals for the Tenth Circuit before return- ing to Hartford. He joined Axinn in 2010 and became the youngest lawyer in firm history to be elected partner in 2014. What's been your biggest professional accomplishment so far in your career? Acting as court-appointed counsel, I won a unanimous reversal of a client's sentence on an issue of first impres- sion, leading to her release after more than 23 years in prison. Every victory is satisfying, but it was particularly rewarding to make such a profound difference in this client's life. How are you involved in the community? I'm chairman of the Glastonbury Re- publican Town Committee, vice chair of the Glastonbury Water Pollution Control Authority, and a member of the Connecticut State Advisory Com- mittee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights. I previously served on the Commission on Connecticut's Leader- ship in Corporation and Business Law. What do you like to do outside of work? I have four children between ages seven and 12, and enjoy attending their school activities, concerts and sporting events. I also like reading bi- ographies, working on my golf swing, singing karaoke, volunteering in local politics, and cheering for the Red Sox. Four reasons why you deserve to be a 40 Under Forty: • I represent leading companies from around the world in high-stakes, complex antitrust, intellectual property and commercial litigation. • I was the youngest person to be elected partner in Axinn's history and am still the firm's youngest partner. • I've won victories in cases with hundreds of millions and billions of dollars at stake. • I'm a leader in Glastonbury politics and serve in town government. FUN FACT In eighth grade I won the 'Chef Award' for my performance in home- economics class.
