Still, Worcester, Mass., doesn't exactly leap to the top of anyone's mind when they think of space, or even rockets. e region never will reach Houston or Cape Canaver- al's status in space tourists' minds, but that doesn't mean we can't make a more con- certed and coordinated effort to celebrate the role Central Massachusetts plays in one of the great wonders of the modern age. Worcester remains home to the David Clark Co., which has designed and built space suits since the Gemini programs and continues yet today. Worcester Polytechnic Institute churns out more data and re- search every year to aid the space program and advance technology, and companies around the region contribute to NASA in ways big and small. ere is a space economy here. So, rather than having a few celebra- tions every couple of decades around the anniversaries of the Moon landing or Goddard's first successful rocket test, Central Massachusetts could do more to brand itself with space imagery, serving as a constant reminder of its importance in the space program. A Goddard or rocket museum doesn't seem out of the question, as long as such an organization can get quality financial backers and a strong collection to attract the crowds. An obelisk in the middle of a golf course is a fine marker, but that isn't really good for anything but quick selfies from space enthusiasts dodging errant golf shots. Having a place where people who are interested in space can go would be an important step forward in Central Massachusetts carving out a small piece of the space tourism economy. And, frankly, it would be cool. Since space exploration is oen wrapped in confusing science and lately focuses on the monotony of launching satellites and fixing the International Space Station, it can be easy to forget how incredibly awesome it is I N T H I S I S S U E that humans take off from the Earth going faster than a bullet shot from a gun to reach places and heights no one ever has before. Central Mass. could play a role in remind- ing everybody of that awesomeness. - Brad Kane, editor W CUSTOMIZE YOUR CAPITAL SOLUTION TODAY Contact Richard Conley RConley@communityp.com | 646.822.9356 CLOSED: $1 Million Acquisition • Freddie Mac Small Balance Loan | 4.91% • 18 units | Worcester, MA UNMATCHED SERVICE AND EXECUTION Fannie Mae • FHA • Freddie Mac Multifamily Capital Solutions CONSTRUCTION | REFINANCE | ACQUISITION CONVENTIONAL FINANCING | AFFORDABLE HOUSING SMALL BALANCE LOANS | FLEXIBLE BRIDGE FINANCING NEWS & ANALYSIS DEPARTMENTS 4 Central Mass.
