X V J U LY 2 2 , 2 0 1 9 28 'LIVING BUILDING' BREAKS GROUND AT ECOLOGY SCHOOL Zachau Construction of Freeport will manage construction of the "Living Building" dormitory at the Ecology School, at 184 Simpson Road in Saco. It will host a groundbreaking on July 23. Design was a collaboration between Kaplan Thompson Architects, Scott Simons Architects, Briburn and Richardson & Associates. Elsewhere, PM Construction of Saco is fast on its way toward completion of the 14,000-square-foot Eldredge Lumber retail store at 145 Presumpscot St. By mid-August, the Portland store will provide a retail face for the lumber yard that's behind it. Eldredge, a family owned business founded in 1937 by Wolf Eldredge and led now by Scott Eldredge, is no stranger to retail. In York, it has the Eldredge Lumber and Hardware, as well as the Atlantic Design Center, all at 627 U.S. Route 1. In Kittery, it has Kittery Ace Hardware at 6 Shapleigh Road. In Portland, the lumberyard is at 165 Presumpscot St. It has a kitchen and bath store at 75 W. Commercial St. in Portland, which will be replaced by the new store. Eldredge also has a Marvin Design Gallery at 317 Marginal Way in Portland. On a side note, the family also has the Eldredge Bros. Fly Shop, for fly fishing aficionados, in Cape Neddick, at 1480 U.S. Route 1. Hebert Construction of Lewiston will serve as construction manager for the Pen Bay Medical Center's 41,500-square-foot medical office building at 6 Glen Cove Drive in Rockport. e architect is Portland-based SMRT Inc. Construction is expected to start in late July, with completion in the summer of 2020. Landry/French Construction of Scarborough will manage construction of a 79,000-square-foot manufacturing building for Harvey Performance Co., at 49 Raceway Drive in Gorham. It will manufacture the company's Helical Solutions line of high-performance end mills and serve as the company's innovation hub. e developer is Northland Enterprises. Design was by SMMA of Cambridge, Mass. Landicity Builders of Harpswell and Unity Homes, a New Hampshire company, are teaming up to develop 17 net-zero homes on 280 acres on Rose Douglas Lane in Brunswick. Two-bedroom models start at $420,000 going up to $585,000 for a three-bedroom, 2,200-square-foot house with a garage, deck and porch. e development will be known as Douglas Ridge. Aquest Corp., which specializes in industrial-scale painting sites, designed and built a new painting facility for Hodgdon Yachts in Boothbay Harbor. e site offers Evergreen Technology, which controls temperature, humidity and airflow, allow- ing for top quality paint applications by maximizing gloss, chemical resistance and hardness (abrasion resistance). Aquest has locations in Saco as well as Somers, Conn. Efficiency Maine provided Hodgdon with a grant to fund a part of the project cost. e painting operation is scheduled to open in August. Consigli has the steel up for the mixed-use development on the former Rufus Deering Lumber site at 383 Commercial St. in Portland. On June 18th, Hancock's leadership team, employees, board of directors, fam- ily, building partners, and friends celebrated their new home office on the Route 11 corridor, directly across from their Eastern White Pine sawmill, next to their lumberyard, and surrounded by their timberlands known as Jugtown Forest. The move to 1267 Poland Spring Road completes a circle generations in the making, as the home office team rejoins the modern business of manufacturing, retailing, and logistics. Once again, Casco is home to one Hancock Lumber campus. Kevin Hancock, President and CEO, made a series of space dedications through- out the new building, and officially unveiled the new building shall forever more be known as the Carol J.
