What's driving the increase is a lack of inventory, an issue reinforced by the Maine Association of Realtors' monthly reports. Anecdotal stories of bidding wars have become common, and cash deals and house "flipping" have reemerged, a reminder of earlier housing booms. It's a seller's market, but the persistent challenge is there's not enough housing, particularly afford- able housing.
