Maine eyed by Dutch aquaculture firm Kingfish Zeeland, an aquaculture company in the Netherlands, is looking at two sites in Maine for its planned expansion. e trade publi- cation SeafoodSource reported that Kingfish Zeeland had considered 22 sites along the East Coast as possible locations for a land-based recirculat- ing aquaculture system. e U.S. site that would be larger than the com- pany's Dutch facility, which produces producing 600 metric tons of yellow- tail a year, mostly for European mar- kets. Kingfish Zeeland CEO Ohad Maiman told SeafoodSource that the company had narrowed its list to two possible sites in Maine, but declined to identify the locations. CEI offers lending to aquaculture startups Coastal Enterprises Inc. has created a loan product to help finance shellfish and sea vegetable growers who may not be able to access loans from tradi- tional lending sources. e Sea Farm Loan program is designed specifically for startups that have secured a lease site and have, at minimum, produced their first "crop" with a documented sale. Available only for Maine busi- nesses, eligible applicants can borrow up to $150,000 in loans that can be used for working capital, gear, vessel and equipment purchases, renovations and/or infrastructure construction. Additional factors that CEI considers for Sea Farm Loan approvals include a completed business plan and a minimum of two years of cash flow projections, with reasonable collateral and a personal guarantee. Borrowers are expected to provide evidence that they were declined financing at another institution to be considered. CEI is based in Brunswick.
