Hartford nonprofit Community Renewal Team (CRT) is seeking businesses in the city to hire some 200 students in its annual summer youth employment program. CRT, in partnership with Hartford's Capital Workforce Partners (CWP), a jobs-training organization, is asking employers of all sizes to participate in the five-week program that connects students ages 15 to 21 to paid jobs. The program is aimed at developing a student's job readiness and leadership and decision-making skills. A grant provided by CWP, the city of Hartford, the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving and the state, will cover employers' costs. CRT will administer the payroll of students in the program and maintain their workers' compensation coverage. It will also provide a case manager who meets with employers at least twice a week during the summer. According to CRT, students will work up to 40 hours a week, or a maximum of 120 hours during the five-week program running from July to August. The nonprofit said it's seeking employers from in-demand industries including health care, manufacturing, construction, engineering, IT and retail. It's also asking nonprofits and schools to participate. Employers may also decide to hire their youth workers after the program ends. Businesses are required to confirm their interest in participating by June 30. Connecticut Wealth Management donated $10,000 to the Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity. In addition, the Connecticut Wealth Management team will volunteer at the Habitat for Humanity "Women's Build" in the spring and the "Corporate Build" this summer.
