Gov. Susan Bysiewicz, who knows a thing or two about powerful women. In addition to her government role and her private practice as a commercial lawyer, Bysiewicz is an author of the biography Ella: A Biography of Ella Grasso, which chronicles the life and career of Connecticut's first female governor. Talk about your powerful, pathbreaking women. Some 175 women (and men) attended the event, but seven were singled out for special attention as the Class of 2019's "Women Who Mean Business": • Mary Barneby, Girl Scouts of Connecticut • Jennifer Gerarda Brown, Quinnipiac University School of Law • Evelyn Gard, Gateway Community College, Housatonic Community College • Margaret Lee & Caroline Smith, Collab New Haven • Jill Bryant Mayer, Bead Industries • Rolan Young, law firm of Berchem Moses.
