Steinberg, president of the Pawtucket Red Sox, recounted his early years in baseball, working as a summer intern at the Baltimore Orioles and studying players' mouth guards while in dentistry school. He later became the team's dentist, counseling players against the use of smokeless tobacco. As advocates highlighted the issues of access and affordability in oral health care, Steinberg drew a parallel to the stadium to become his team's home once it moves to Worcester. Montachusett Home Care names new CEO Leominster-based Montachusett Home Care Corp. has named its longtime Chief Financial Officer Lori Richardson as its new CEO following the retirement of its former chief in December. The company's board of directors on Feb. 27 named Richardson to the post after she spent 12 years managing the organization's finances. Prior to Montachusett, Richardson was the chief business officer at Anna Maria College in Paxton. She holds a bachelor's degree in management from UMass Dartmouth, a master's degree in business administration from Nichols College in Dudley and a certificate of advanced studies in business from Anna Maria College. Richardson is the fifth executive officer to lead the organization. MassBio report gives tips to digital health industry Massachusetts already has a strong digital health market, with many top colleges and hospitals and top brands like PillPack. A report by professional services giant Deloitte for the trade group Massachusetts Biotechnology Council (MassBio), says the state can be the best place in the country for digital health if it improves access to patients and data, and develops a workforce able to solve healthcare challenges through digital technologies. The report recommends closer coordination between the state's digital health entrepreneurial and investor worlds. Deloitte's study found Massachusetts' top schools, including medical schools, bring a major source of industry talent, but much of the field leaves to work in other states. Fallon Health joins national alliance Worcester health insurer Fallon Health has joined a national alliance of health plans and provider groups as just the second member from Massachusetts. Fallon has joined the Alliance of Community Health Plans, whose members cover more than 21 million people across 34 states. Worcester's health ranks seventh in New England The Worcester metropolitan area ranks seventh among New England's largest metro areas for health when rated for access to care, quality hospitals and local specialists. The Worcester region was 55th nationally among the largest metro areas, right between Chicago and Charlotte, as ranked by the health industry website Healthgrades. One factor put Worcester above all else: access to care. Worcester ranked first nationally. Other scores were lower, including hospital quality and local specialists, both of which the region landed outside the top 60. Boston Scientific profited $1.67B in 2018 Marlborough medical-device company Boston Scientific had more than $9.8 billion in sales in 2018, good for an 8.6-percent increase from 2017. The company reported a huge bump in profit from the year prior with $1.67 billion compared to $104 million in 2017. The big year was helped along by a strong fourth quarter with the company's revenue of $2.56 billion, an increase of 6.3 percent. Profit in the quarter was similarly strong at $386 million.
