e put it in writing.
And what writing it was: "I
want to kiss your lips on the
coast of Liguria … and every
part of your body in every
continent and city in the world... I
want to see you in evening dress at
La Scala … and naked on the beach
of Jamaica."
So wrote Michael Simons, M.D.,
the married chief of cardiology at
Yale School of Medicine, proclaim-
ing his passion to a postdoctoral
associate who was not his wife
— and who also had a serious
boyfriend. She was definitely not
interested, but Simons contin-
ued to express his desire for her,
according to documents obtained
by the Yale Daily News. Starting
in 2010, he spoke to the woman of
his love, wrote amorous letters in
Italian and penned emails declar-
ing his admiration and denigrating
her boyfriend, also at the Medical
School.
A top researcher and grant-
money rainmaker at the Yale
School of Medicine, Simons almost
sank his career when his actions
came to light.
Almost sank his career. Simons
is still employed at the Yale School
of Medicine, bringing in nearly $4
million in grant funding in 2018
for his groundbreaking work on
the biology of arterial vasculature.
