Connecticut Convention Center's attendance (363,279) and operating revenues ($3.7 million) both fell in fiscal 2018 by 1.2 percent and 13.1 percent, respectively, state data shows. The facility has been challenged by increased competition from casinos, including MGM's new Springfield gaming facility. Mohegan Sun unveiled its new $80 million, 250,000-square-foot Earth Expo & Convention Center in May. Foxwoods unveiled several new amenities in 2018 including New England's first on-site casino brewery and a zipline. In fiscal 2018, the XL Center lost $2.9 million, attributed to seven canceled/unsuccessful events and the addition of a state event admissions tax half way through the fiscal year.
