Hartford Hospital in September opened a new $5 million, 26-bed inpatient rehabilitation unit in its main building on Seymour Street. Its parent company, Hartford HealthCare, is also in the process of acquiring St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport. St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center and an orthopedic surgeon group broke ground in September on a $26.5 million, 33,000-square-foot orthopedic and pain ambulatory surgery center in Hartford. Middlesex Hospital opened a new Occupational and Environmental Medicine Department and Physical Rehabilitation Department in Essex. UConn Health, John Dempsey Hospital's financially struggling parent company, has received more than one bid for a public-private partnership as it looks to secure long-term sustainability. Bristol Hospital broke ground on its new 62,000-square- foot ambulatory care center in downtown Bristol, which is expected to open in late 2019.
