Gottfried has joined Hartford law firm Day Pitney LLP as a partner in the corporate and business law department and a member of the tax practice group. Gottfried has served as an adjunct professor at the University of Connecticut School of Law. He is the immediate past chair of the tax section of the Connecticut Bar Association. Janney Montgomery Scott LLC, a Philadelphia- based financial services and investment banking firm, has added a three- person team to its Glastonbury office. The new team consists of Gary Halter, senior vice president/wealth management; Benjamin Halter, financial advisor; and Sharland Baker, senior registered private client associate. All three were previously affiliated with RBC Wealth Management. Kimberly Napp and Shaun Sheridan have been named partners at Hartford-based accounting firm Whittlesey & Hadley P.C. Napp joined the firm in 2003 and has over 15 years of service with a concentration in assurance services for nonprofit organizations and credit unions. Sheridan is a 14-year veteran who specializes in assurance services for employee-benefit plan audits, manufacturing and distribution, closely held, real estate and construction clients. Peter Church has been hired as chief human resources officer at Orange-based utility Avangrid Inc. Church will be responsible for developing and executing human resource strategies in support of the overall company business plan and strategic direction of the organization. He previously worked as chief talent officer at UnitedHealthcare. Jason Burnett and James "Jim" Otis have rejoined Fuss & O'Neill Inc., a Manchester civil and environmental engineering-consulting firm, as senior controls engineer and associate in the water and natural resources department, respectively. Burnett rejoins the firm after five years working on controls systems for large system upgrades for water treatment plants and in the paper mill industry. He will work in the industry and utilities group. Otis, who previously worked for Fuss & O'Neill from 1987 to 2003, has spent most of his career in Connecticut, managing and providing support for dam, bridge, solid waste and other civil/environmental projects. Former Assistant Attorney General Joy Avallone has been named counsel to the Insurance Association of Connecticut (IAC), the state's top insurance association. In her new role, Avallone will serve as one of the chief lobbyists for Connecticut's insurance and financial- services industry. As assistant attorney general, she specialized in defending workers' compensation cases on behalf of the state of Connecticut and the Second Injury Fund. Sal Romano has joined Ion Bank, a community bank in Naugatuck, as senior vice president of commercial lending. In his new position, Romano will work closely with local businesses to develop and expand commercial relationships with new and existing customers. He previously worked for Farmington Bank as vice president, commercial loan officer. Julie Daly Meehan was promoted to the position of chief investor relations officer at the MetroHartford Alliance. Meehan, who has worked for the Alliance for 11 years, most recently served as its vice president, investor engagement and retention. As part of the leadership team, Meehan will play a key role in building investor relationships.
