hen Glastonbury-based
SLAM started its wellness
program in 1994, it mainly
entailed switching from donuts to
bagels on casual Friday.
Nearly 20 years
later, SLAM's
program has
evolved to where
the firm offers
wellness semi-
nars, activities,
insurance incen-
tives, ergonomic
evaluations,
screenings and
healthy lifestyle
information.
In 2007, SLAM
was awarded
Wellness Coun-
cils of America's
Bronze level
award, which has been given to firms
many times its size.
Employees at all five of SLAM's of-
fices — in Glastonbury, Atlanta, Boston,
Syracuse and Los Angeles — can access
the firm's online wellness portal, health
screenings and videos of wellness semi-
nars. In addition, the program ensures
that employees' spouses are able to
take advantage of the programs, fitness
subsidies and health clinics.

lifestyle can translate to paid

can earn "wellness
points" for partici-
pating in health
screenings, com-
pleting a health
risk assessment
and going through
health coaching
if they don't meet
certain biometric
guidelines.
Those wellness
points can lead

12 wellness challenges ranging from a
"maintain or lose" weight-loss competi-
tion over the holiday season, to "Five-A-
Day" fruit and vegetable challenges.
