WPI receives $3.5M to treat tumors with robots Researchers at Worcester Polytechnic Institute received a five-year, $3.5-mil- lion grant from the National Institutes of Health to continue development on a robotic system to destroy brain tumors. e system is operated within an MRI scanner and delivers a minimally inva- sive probe to destroy metastatic brain tumors with high-intensity ultrasound. e grant is the second major NIH award for the system and will enable the research team -- including research- es from Albany Medical College and GE Global Research -- to model the behavior of the ultrasound ablation system, implement thermal monitoring to provide real time feedback, optimize and verify the system's' effectiveness and certify its readiness for clinical trials. Becker names new dean Becker College in Worcester has named a former Pennsylvania educator as its dean of the School of Graduate and Professional Studies. Mary Ellen Mahoney will begin her post as dean of the college's fih school this month aer most recently serving as executive director of Graduate and Extended Studies Programs in the College of Arts and Sciences at Saint Joseph's Universi- ty in Philadelphia. Mahoney now heads the college's new school, which just launched in July. Jack's Abby to open North Station taproom Jack's Abby Cra Lagers is hopping on the Commuter Rail to North Station, where the Framingham brewery will open a tap- room at the bar in Boston. e location offers commuters and fans catching a game at TD Garden a chance to unwind with seven Jack's Abby beers and three from spinoff brewery Springdale Barrel Room.
