Pine State Trading patriarch dies Charles F. Canning Jr., retired CEO of Pine State Trading, passed away on Nov. 13. He was 83. From small beginnings under Canning's leadership, Pine State Trading grew into a regional power- house, while being recognized as one of Maine's most prominent employers. He led Pine State from a small local Maine distributor of convenience store products and beverages to a regional powerhouse. In 2016, the convenience store division was sold to Core-Mark Holding Co., though the company held onto bever- age, spirits and vending divisions, as well as Town & Country Foods.
