Connecticut BOARD OF DIRECTORS M y name is Brett Glaser and I play tennis with Special Olympics. In the past four years, I have had the privilege to play for the Middletown team and I represented Connecticut at the 2018 Special Olympics USA Games in Seattle, Washington. I love my team Middletown. We are a big family and we love to spend time together. It's fun training and seeing everyone improve year after year. Joining Special Olympics helped me build confidence in myself. It's amazing what you can accomplish when you finally start believing in yourself. Brett Glaser , Special Olympics Athlete, Madison, CT Special Olympics Connecticut provides year-round sports training and competition opportunities for over 12,000 participants of all abilities. In addition to its traditional sports programs for individuals with intellectual disabilities, the Special Olympics Unified Sports® program brings athletes with and without intellectual disabilities together to play sports, gain physical fitness and develop friendships. Special Olympics Unified Sports® is offered in communities and schools across the state, to individuals of all ages. Special Olympics offers 26 Olympic-type sports and hosts four state games annually, as well as additional competitions throughout the year. Athletes may also compete at Special Olympics USA and World Games. Through the Special Olympics Healthy Athletes program, athletes receive free health screenings and education at events. Volunteer medical practitioners and students check athletes' vision, hearing, teeth and feet. This, along with follow-up care resources and healthy lifestyle education, really helps to improve their game! In addition to benefiting athletes who might not have access to healthcare otherwise, it also helps medical practitioners become more comfortable treating people with intellectual disabilities. Special Olympics is sports and so much more. It is a movement that transforms lives by inspiring inclusion, understanding and respect for people of all abilities, both on and off the playing field. It's about revealing the champion in all of us!
