But there have been some subtle shifts in the numbers, according to the most recent data from the Maine Bar Association. Well over a third of Maine's lawyers, 38.8%, are in Cumberland County. The second-largest concentration of Maine lawyers isn't from Maine at all, but rather from out-of-state. Rural counties are at the low end, with the extreme case being Piscataquis County, with just eight lawyers. Women make up a larger percentage of lawyers than five years ago. Maine still has a large percentage of lawyers who are over 65, nearly 16% of the overall number, but that tends to reflect Maine's overall workforce.
