Generous training programs
As companies transition to smart
manufacturing, many have taken to
reaching out to educational institutions
regarding curriculum adjustments designed
to meet specific needs.
Lela Glikes-Foley is a program manager at
the Greater Boston Manufacturing
Partnership (GBMP) an organization
dedicated to continuous improvement
education, coaching, and facilitation.
"We assist employers in getting grants for
onsite training. For example, Boston
Centerless received a two-year grant to
work on employee training with the GBMT
from the state of Massachusetts' workforce
training funds," Glikes-Foley explains.
Massachusetts offers one of the most
generous workforce training grants of any
state.
"All employers pay into these funds but not
all employers know what they can get back
from it. It helps people who want to take
advantage of our services," Glikes-Foley
says.
GBMP works with hundreds of companies
every year pertaining to Toyota Production
System so manufacturers can be globally
competitive while staying here in
Massachusetts.
Many manufacturers have some type of
incentive for the new employees they hire.
For example, Thermo Fisher Scientific
"All of
our client
companies are essentially
paying for advanced
learning for their
employees, since they are
employed at the company
and the company pays for
the training. We provide
certificates for our
training that can then be
used by the employees
as part of their ISO
training requirements, job
advancement, etc.."
