4 Hartford Business Journal • October 22, 2018 • www.HartfordBusiness.com Week in Review Briefs Windsor's Konica Minolta to lay off another 219 Business-equipment vendor Konica Minolta, which is closing its two Windsor locations, says it will lay off another 219 workers in December, according to a Department of Labor filing. Konica Minolta, as previously reported, is slated to permanently close its facilities at 500 Day Hill Road and 550 Marshall Phelps Road by Sept. 30, 2019, when it consolidates operations at its U.S. headquarters in New Jersey. In April, the equipment supplier announced its plans to lay off all 431 Windsor employees starting in July. Workers there are being offered jobs in New Jersey or other Konica facilities in Milford and Shelton, the filing says. CT Convention & Sports Bureau president Phelps to retire H. Scott Phelps, president of the Connecticut Convention & Sports Bureau (CTCSB), announced he will retire at year-end after leading the organization that helps market dozens of statewide venues since 2014. CTCSB, which promotes Connecticut's convention, meeting, hotels and sports venues through event sales and marketing, said it will launch a national search for Phelps' replacement. Phelps came out of retirement to lead CTCSB in 2014 when he succeeded retiring president Michael Van Parys. He had spent more than 30 years at the former Greater Hartford Convention & Visitors Bureau, beginning in 1977 as director of membership and community affairs and then president in 1992. Phelps retired from the now-defunct organization in 2010. UConn athletics extends IMG partnership in $93M deal UConn announced it inked a 15-year extension worth up to $93 million for IMG to continue as its exclusive multimedia partner through 2033. The extended deal maintains IMG's exclusive rights to carry all UConn multimedia, including podcasts featuring Geno Auriemma, radio deals with iHeartMedia Hartford's 97.9 ESPN and the upcoming launch of the women's basketball sponsorship platform noting the team's 11 NCAA Division I championships. IMG will also continue managing UConn's trademark-licensing program. School officials said the program has generated over $17 million in licensing royalties since it began partnering with IMG College Licensing in 1986. Downtown Hartford developer Marc Levine dies Marc S. Levine, whose redevelopment of several downtown Hartford commercial buildings paved the way to more people calling the center city home, died Oct. 16, according to his online obituary in the Hartford Courant. He was 77. Levine and his partners in Marc S. Levine Interests built The Lofts at Main & Temple apartments around the former Sage-Allen department store building in 2007. In 2014, Levine spent $3 million to upgrade the partnership's Residence Inn Marriott on Main Street. At the time he said he saw potential for one more downtown office tower. A lawyer, he was born in Meriden and graduated from Maloney High School. He also graduated from Brown University and Georgetown Law Center, his obituary said. Wallingford firm acquires CT duct-sealing contractor Wallingford-based CMC Energy Services said it has acquired a fellow Connecticut company that offers services in the building-efficiency market. CMC said it's agreed to buy ECS Aeroseal, based in Southport, for an undisclosed price. ECS is an approved dealer of Aeroseal, which is a product used for sealing the inside of duct systems to reduce air leaks. There are about a dozen Aeroseal dealers in Connecticut, according to the company's website. Until 2010, Aeroseal was owned by Carrier Corp., which is part of Farmington-based United Technologies. TOP STORY Infosys confirms Goodwin Square lease in downtown Hartford I ndia-based information-technology and outsourcing provider Infosys confirmed it leased three floors in downtown Hartford's Goodwin Square office building. Hartford Business Journal first reported the technology giant was eyeing the space in September. Infosys is currently renovating more than 56,000 square feet in the 30-story building, which will become home to the tech giant's $20.6 million regional technology hub, an Infosys official familiar with the project said. The Hartford project at 225 Asylum St. is one of four regional headquarters Infosys plans to launch as part of a national effort to hire 10,000 U.S. workers by year-end 2019. Infosys may receive up to $14 million in state grants if it meets certain job targets. The company held a speed hiring event last month in Glastonbury. Meantime, Trinity College inked an education partnership with Infosys last month with hopes the multi-year initiative prepares students for careers in the tech- consulting industry.
