24 Hartford Business Journal • October 22, 2018 • www.HartfordBusiness.com FAMILY BUSINESS AWARDS 2018 Triax Technologies Inc. T riax Technologies Inc. develops and delivers IoT technology for the construction industry. Its Spot-r system provides real-time worker and equipment loca- tion, utilization and safety data re- sulting in faster response to injuries and improved worksite performance. Recent accomplishments Since launching in May 2017, Triax has expanded the Spot-r system's offer- ing to include the Spot-r EquipTag and Spot-r EvacTag. The Spot-r EquipTag identifies real-time equipment loca- tion, utilization, and operator identity and certification indoors and outdoors within the Spot-r network and was named one of Contractor's "Top 50 New Products." The company has also partnered with industry leaders such as Bosch and United Rentals to extend the reach and value of Spot-r data. How do you remain competitive in the market? As technology continues to advance and more solutions hit the market, it's essential to view customers as part- ners and involve them in the product- development process early and often. Companies must experience their so- lution in the field and work with actual end users (e.g. workers at the jobsite) to understand how products are being used and identify unexpected benefits or pain points to stay ahead of cus- tomers' needs. In addition, it's important to have a solid mission and ensure that ev- eryone at the organization believes in it and is constantly working to- ward it. At Triax, there is no greater priority than ensuring that every worker returns home safely at the end of the day. How do you instill your family values in your employees? The company's core values, like the founders' family values, include a commitment to encouraging indi- vidual initiative, projecting a positive attitude and embracing a collaborative environment. From the co-founders through the current leadership team, the organization believes it is possible to work hard, have fun, and do good, which is supported through a flexible work environment, open floor plan, and regular communication amongst team members. Triax hires driven, passionate individuals and gives them the trust — and freedom — to ques- tion the status quo to improve pro- cesses and outcomes. 2 ND PLACE — 25 to 75 full-time employees Triax Technologies Inc.
