4 Hartford Business Journal • October 15, 2018 • www.HartfordBusiness.com Week in Review Briefs DOJ conditionally greenlights $69B CVS-Aetna deal The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has conditionally greenlit CVS Health's proposed $69 billion acquisition of Hartford health insurer Aetna, moving the deal to its final regulatory hurdles. DOJ's approval, which is contingent on Aetna divesting its Medicare Part D prescription drug plans to a subsidiary of WellCare Health Plans Inc., is a major milestone as Aetna and CVS eye completing the deal in the early portion of the fourth quarter. The proposed deal is still subject to state regulatory approvals. After closing, Aetna will operate as a standalone business under CVS Health and will be overseen by Karen S. Lynch. CT seeks mobile manufacturing training partner Connecticut wants a collaborator who can set up a mobile manufacturing training lab to update and expand the skills of new and incumbent production workers. The state Department of Labor and state Manufacturing Innovation Fund (MIF) have issued a request for proposals for a mobile manufacturing training lab that aims to train both existing manufacturing workers and young newcomers. It is an extension of efforts in Connecticut's public and private manufacturing sector to equip older and younger workers with the skills — 3D printing, additive and advanced manufacturing, production quality control, etc. — most in demand in today's sector, officials said. Bidders will be responsible not only for the training regimen, but also for buying, operating and maintaining the mobile vehicle, authorities said. The application deadline is Nov. 7. Windsor couple eyes first Windsor Locks brewery A Windsor couple is looking to turn their passion for brewing into Windsor Locks' first brewpub. Jennifer and James Wright, a former brewer at Bloomfield's Back East Brewing Co., are asking Windsor Locks' Planning and Zoning Commission for a special permit to operate a brewery in the Dexter Plaza at 20 Main St. The Wrights are proposing to renovate the 2,560-square- foot space with new lighting, bench seating for 40, and install floor drains, piping, brewing kettles and more. Future upgrades include expanding to 80 seats with additional tables and bar stools. The brewery will be called Luppoleto Brewing Company and is projected to produce about 122 barrels in year one. Air Liquide completes hydrogen fueling station in Hartford Air Liquide Advanced Technologies said it completed installing a hydrogen fueling station in Hartford's North Meadows section. The French supplier of industrial gases and services said its Hartford facility is part of a nationwide effort to build fueling stations in Mansfield, Mass., Providence, Hempstead, N.Y., Palo Alto and Los Angeles, Calif. Air Liquide said hydrogen offers a clean transportation alternative because it does not generate pollution during use in electric vehicles. Windsor Locks PZC moves sports complex forward The Windsor Locks Planning and Zoning Commission has unanimously approved a general plan of development for the proposed All Sports Village complex. Before the board approved the plan submitted by JABS Sports Management LLC, it set an extensive list of conditions that must be met for the project, which TOP STORY Simsbury's ex-Hartford Life property for sale A 132-acre chunk of the former Hartford Life office complex in Simsbury is for sale, brokers said. National commercial realty broker Cushman & Wakefield announced its appointment as listing broker for the acreage at 200 Hopmeadow St. A sale price was not disclosed. New Jersey developer-landlord The Silverman Group acquired the property in Dec. 2015 from The Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. and won approval for an ambitious redevelopment under the town's "form-based code" zoning rules. The plan allowed for development of up to 215 townhomes and 270 luxury apartments, 71,050 square feet of retail space and a walking/bike trail linked to the Farmington River Trail. It's not clear why The Silverman Group is now selling the property. Brian Whitmer, of Cushman & Wakefield's New Jersey office, said the owner will consider offers for all or part of its Hartford Life property. The office building has since been razed and power, water and sewer lines and other development infrastructure are in place, he said.
