Rob Ruggiero, TheaterWorks' producing artistic director, announced Wadsworth, at 600 Main St., will host its productions of "Actually" from May 23 to June 23, 2019, and "Fully Committed," from Aug. 1 to Sept. 1. Ruggiero said the theater company chose Wadsworth as its temporary venue to stay within a walkable distance from its downtown Hartford home at the City Arts on Pearl at 233 Pearl St, which is getting a $4 million face-lift. Spurned E. Hartford lender plans layoffs An East Hartford financier that assists distressed mortgage borrowers says it plans to lay off as many as 35 Connecticut workers and scrap its headquarters expansion amid a staff- licensing flap with state bank regulators. John DiIorio, CEO of 1st Alliance Lending LLC, which planned to move to a larger headquarters in Vernon, blamed the state Banking Department's requirement that staff of mortgage lenders be licensed if their jobs require them to interact with consumers. In a statement, DiIorio said state and federal law only require such "costly licenses" in instances where mortgage employees "take a mortgage application'' or "negotiate loan rates." He said negotiations broke down with state bank regulators over the staff- licensing requirement, and cast it as "overregulation and desperate revenue grabbing.'' The state Banking Department, in a statement declined comment, noting it has yet to issue any recent formal administrative action against 1st Alliance. McLadden's restaurants acquired by Mass. group A Massachusetts restaurant group says it has acquired McLadden's restaurants in West Hartford, Simsbury and Northampton, Mass. Bean Restaurant Group announced it completed the purchase of McLadden Restaurant Group, owned by Michael McLadden, which includes three Irish pubs and the space formerly occupied by West Hartford speakeasy-themed eatery, Noble & Co. Financial terms were not disclosed. The new owners said they will build off McLadden's established brand with minor renovations and an updated menu. Meantime, the restaurant partners closed Noble & Co. about six weeks ago and began renovating the space into an American-style bistro. St. Francis breaks ground on $26.2M orthopedic surgery center in Hartford St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center and its partners recently broke ground on a $26.2 million, 35,000-square-foot orthopedic and pain ambulatory surgery center in Hartford.
