We respect the dignity and individuality of each person we serve, support them through advocacy and education efforts, provide access to appropriate opportunities for choice and growth and work to keep both the persons served and their communities satisfied and enriched. SERVICE LOCATION(S) Hancock, Penobscot, Piscataquis and Waldo counties Downeast Horizons 2019 GOALS Adult Services: Our focus as an agency is on the wellbeing of the people we serve, and our ongoing and active goals for them are to maintain and increase social and community participation, while working to develop and improve skills that support their health, happiness and independence. Personal development activities may address: self-care and self-management skills; physical fi tness; behavior manage- ment; sensory, motor, and psychological needs; interpersonal skills to cultivate sup- portive personal, family, work and community relationships; and opportunities for participation in activities to promote social and community engagement. Children Services: DEHI direct support is provided to children up to age 21 with cognitive impairments. Our goals for these services, which are delivered in home or community settings, are to increase functioning and skills development for the persons served, while providing them with adaptive tools to help decrease maladaptive behaviors. Downeast Horizons provides one-on-one support services that teach necessary skills to improve the individual's independence with activities of daily living, community integration and behavior management. All services are carefully designed to be fun and rewarding while focusing on each individual's personal needs and challenges. FUNDRAISING EVENTS/OPPORTUNITIES Downeast Horizons invites you to take part in our various fundraising activities throughout the year, either as a participant or business sponsor. ese activities include cookbook sales, raffl es, craft sales and annual events such as our Autism Awareness Walk and Color Fun 5k. GIVING OPPORTUNITIES All donations to Downeast Horizons are appreciated and graciously accepted. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES Volunteers are an important resource to Downeast Horizons. Our volunteer opportunities vary from actively assisting the people we support to helping out with Special Olympics, fundraising, offi ce activities and much more. We wel- come individuals of all ages, and students can meet community service require- ments through volunteering with DEH. We target funds raised from the towns and individual donors for: building repair and building expenses (60%), staff training (20%) and consumer motivation/ diversion activities (20%). Funds are deposited into a Board-restricted account along with funds from other towns and individuals. As our fiscal year proceeds, funds are transferred out as we need them to cover direct program expenses.
