As a not-for- profit company celebrating our 50th anniversary, and in our third decade in Maine, we provide health insurance coverage to almost 130,000 Mainers, many of which are nonprofits. Health insurance is complex, but our goal is to provide a full range of insurance solutions with outstanding coverage, choice and value. To accomplish that, it's important that we understand the needs of our small and large businesses throughout the state. While participation in public health insurance exchanges have declined across the country, Harvard Pilgrim is proud to be going into our fourth year participating in the Maine health insurance exchange. We remain committed to offering high-quality, high-value health insurance options to our members, and will continue working with state and federal policy makers to help create the conditions that ensures access to coverage for as many people as possible. Our commitment to the state of Maine, however, goes well beyond our role as a health insurance provider. It's just as important that Harvard Pilgrim be a strong corporate citizen, in line with our not-for-profit mission and our core values. rough our longtime Quality Grants Program, nonprofit medical providers in Maine receive funding to help them engage in innovative initiatives designed to improve care delivery and reduce costs. Every year, the Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation supports local nonprofit agencies and health initiatives across the region with more than $2 million in grants and sponsorships. Since 1980, the Foundation's work has helped to combat childhood obesity, increase access to fresh, affordable food for low-income communities and families in the region, and support healthy, strong and diverse communities. To help support local businesses, we are actively partnering with Maine nonprofits that focus on strengthening and empowering family-owned businesses throughout the state. In addition, Harvard Pilgrim employees are an integral part of our community support, donating thousands of service hours over the years in the region. In fact, last year 95% of our employees participated in at least one service or giving activity. Reviewing Harvard Pilgrim's 50-year history, what stands out is our ability to evaluate the market and adapt to the changes that take place around us — not only by delivering innovative insurance products for individual consumers and businesses, but by helping to build healthier communities throughout Maine. We are proud to be a strong local partner to other nonprofit organizations in the state. Ed Kane Vice President Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Maine has a long history of embracing civic leadership with fervor and focus. From Joshua Chamberlain to our world-class roster of contemporary civic leaders, Mainers are clearly passionate about doing good and the well-being of all. It is in this spirit that Harpswell Capital Advisors was founded. We are "all in" when it comes to partnering with and fostering Maine's esteemed not-for-profit institutions. Harpswell is a boutique investment advisory firm that is dedicated to serving nonprofit institutions in Maine and beyond. e nonprofit world is rapidly changing, and specialization, depth and expertise matters more than ever when it comes to who you rely on for investment advice and planning. Harpswell's team is fully immersed in the nonprofit sector, and our focus enables us to be a valued partner to each institution we serve. Each institution's endowment serves a unique purpose in furthering its mission. For some of the not-for-profit institutions we serve, their endowment is a rainy- day fund; for others, it provides daily income. ere are several key factors that play into the custom management of each endowment. Harpswell focuses on managing each institution's assets to best align their endowment with their goals and preferences. Our custom approach means each endowment's investment portfolio will be structured to reflect the institution's unique needs. Harpswell feels that proper structure is the cornerstone for long-term success for an endowment. Structure refers to well-defined investment policies and benchmarks to ensure your endowment is managed according to your wishes and to empower you to effectively hold your endowment manager accountable. Harpswell's in-depth on-boarding process runs each institution through a rigorous exercise to assess their current policies or draft new ones which embrace best practices. While Harpswell typically conducts our structure analysis services as a function of on-boarding, we also welcome clients who want an independent firm to conduct a deep-dive into their policies. At Harpswell, we derive great satisfaction in working with nonprofit institutions. is civic-focus defines our people, our culture and our goals. Success for us is measured by the impact we have on each, and every, institution that we serve. "e best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others." — Mahatma Gandhi Harpswell partners with a select group of Maine institutions and we love being a boutique firm with a narrow focus. When the time is right for your organization to reassess your endowment relationship, reach out to Harpswell to see if our firm is the right partner. We welcome the opportunity to talk.
