These are in addition to contracts for crisis services that continue in northern Cumberland, Sagadahoc, York and Waldo counties. / August 2016: Mainebiz honored Sweetser President and CEO Debra Taylor as one of the "Women to Watch" for her contributions to the behavioral health field and community. / July 2016: The Maine Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services, awarded Sweetser the contract to provide statewide recovery-based peer training. Sweetser's caring and compassionate professionals connect approximately 20,000 children, families and adults each year with the services they need and deserve. Key focus areas include: f Promoting 24/7 crisis services, including suicide prevention. f Ensuring quality residential care for children in need guided by the princi- ples of Cornell University's Children And Residential Experiences (CARE). f Providing quality residential services for adults with intellectual and devel- opmental disabilities in a community setting. f Offering the state's only comprehensive program for life-threatening eating disor- ders through the New England Eating Disorders (NEED) program at Sweetser. f Training community members in Mental Health First Aid on how to respond to a crisis involving youth, adults and older adults through the Sweeter Training Institute. f Recognizing and championing the strength of the community mental health system in Maine as a practical alternative to more costly alternatives, such as emergency rooms, inpatient hospital care and jails. f Providing access to necessary services (free and reduced fee) for individuals who are uninsured or underinsured. FUNDRAISING EVENTS/OPPORTUNITIES Sweetser has three major fundraising events that provide sponsorship opportu- nities for business participation and donor support: f The Sweetser/KeyBank "Sold on Kids" Auction & Dinner will be held in the spring 2019 at the Portland Marriott at Sable Oaks in South Portland. Approximately 400 guests attend our largest fundraising event. f The Sweetser/Prime Motor Group Golf Classic is scheduled for June 17, 2019 at the Dunegrass Golf Club in Old Orchard Beach. is popular tour- nament includes 37 teams. f Cycle or Stroll for Sweetser will be held in September 2019. is family event begins at the Sweetser campus in Saco and is held on the Eastern Trail. Cycle for 2, 8 or 14 miles, or walk for three miles. Children 12 and under participate for free. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES Volunteers are essential to Sweetser's work, adding life experience, diverse inter- ests and unique abilities to extend our network of care. Opportunities include: one-day volunteer activities for organizations to paint, landscape or other large projects; administrative or office support; activity leaders; spending one-to-two hours per week sharing hobbies and interests in residential settings; classroom assistants; mentors who commit to regular visits, developing a positive, sup- portive relationship with a child; and volunteers for special fundraising events. Also, Sweetser has a variety of intern opportunities in many areas ranging from clinical, residential, development and training. Sweetser is a great way to receive the educational career experience you need.
