Our mission is to assist and advocate for people in crisis due to unstable or conflictive living situations, resulting in increased stability and more productive lives. SERVICE LOCATION(S) New Beginnings operates the only licensed 24-hour emergency shelter for children and teens in the state, serving youth and families in crisis from throughout Maine with free family mediation, phone referrals and emergency shelter for youth ages 12–19. Our agency offices, shelter, prevention education, mental health services and Youth Outreach Drop-In Center are located in Lewiston. We operate transitional living apartments for youth in Lewiston-Auburn, Farmington and Augusta, along with urban and rural street outreach services and comprehensive case management for young people ages 14-21 who are at risk for homelessness in Androscoggin, Kennebec and Franklin counties. New Beginnings Inc. 2019 GOALS Whether a young person is facing a night on the streets for the very first time or has been surviving on their own for years, New Beginnings can help. Since 1980 New Beginnings has grown from one emergency shelter to a full spectrum of supportive services for youth – short and long-term housing, family media- tion, counseling, educational support and outreach services – all of which are designed to meet our agency's goals to prevent young people from becoming homeless and help vulnerable youth grow into stable and healthy adults. New Beginnings is in a period of growth and strategic planning. In 2018 we defined the following areas where we will be investing time, resources and fur- ther planning in 2019 so we can continue to improve the lives of 700 homeless youth and their families each year: f Building and strengthening our partnerships with other organizations; f Improving Board training, governance models and recruitment efforts; f Increasing internal capacity for growth, including through technology; f Expanding New Beginnings' visibility and impact locally, statewide and nationally. FUNDRAISING EVENTS/OPPORTUNITIES Giving Tuesday Annual Fund Kick Off: Give online at newbeginmaine.org on Nov. 27, 2018 (the Tuesday after anksgiving) to launch our annual fund! Consider pledging to match Giving Tuesday gifts to set the tone for our most ambitious annual campaign to date. We welcome fundraising events hosted by businesses and individuals – such as "dress down" days, donation drives and holiday or house parties – where New Beginnings is the beneficiary. We'd be happy to promote your event on Facebook or speak to your group about our work. To learn more about how you can help, to request a New Beginnings speaker or marketing assistance for your event, or to schedule a tour of one of our pro- grams, please contact Development and Marketing Coordinator Amber Kruk at amber@newbeginmaine.org. GIVING OPPORTUNITIES You can make a difference in the lives of youth in need: f Give to our annual fund. Your gen- erous year-end gifts support critical operating expenses. f Support our Holiday Drive or give in-kind year-round. Make the holi- days brighter for homeless youth this December or donate much- needed wish list items any time. f Match employee contributions. Encourage your employees to donate, match the gift, and watch your com- bined contribution do more good. f Sponsor our 2019 Annual Dinner. A variety of sponsorship levels are available – or donate in-kind products or services for the event. f Include New Beginnings in your 2019 giving plans. Please think of us as you make plans for your next giving season. We'd welcome the opportunity to come speak with you and members of your Charitable Giving Committee. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES f Donate your services, which could include (but not limited to) printing, graphic/video design, photography, media relations, landscaping and snow removal. f Coordinate an in-kind donation drive to collect essentials from our wish list including new hygiene supplies, socks and underwear. f Organize a group of volunteers to make and deliver meals to one of our programs or do a spruce-up project. f Serve on a Board committee or as an Advisor. We are currently seek- ing volunteers for our development/ marketing committee and programs committee. We have more volunteer opportunities available, including some interacting directly with youth that require an extensive screening and training process.
