AT A G L A N C E Position: Tool and Die Maker Age: 25 Schools: Lisbon Regional High School, Southern Maine Community College: Associate's in applied science – integrated manufacturing – precision machining Years at company: 5 (plus 2 years as a college intern) Courtney Heath What is the coolest thing about your job? "The ability to envision and manufacture most anything is so cool. I've also been an instructor for metal working at Littleton High School vocational program, which has been rewarding." How did you find your current position at the company? "I started as an intern in high school. I grew to love it, and went off to college to obtain my associate's degree. After graduating, the company contacted me about employment, and I've been here ever since." What advice do you have for those who might be con- sidering work in the manufacturing industry based on your own experience? "I would definitely advise those new to the field to never give up. It can be difficult to wrap your mind around some of the applications, but you'll get it. It takes years to acquire a good metal-working skill set. Although college isn't usually necessary, it's a huge bonus for potential employers." Position: Design Engineer Age: 27 Schools: Lisbon Regional High School, Vermont Technical College Years at company: 3 (plus 3 years as a college intern) Kyle Fifield What is the coolest thing about your job? "The coolest thing about being a design engineer at NEWT is being able to see the full evolution of a custom cable. Evolving from a concept, to a preliminary design, to a first-run prototype, to larger production runs is quite satisfying to see." How did you find your current position with the company? "I started at NEWT as a college intern. After graduating college and working for a different company, I saw a posting for engi- neering opportunities at NEWT. I contacted them, and the rest is history." What advice do you have for those who might be consid- ering work in the manufacturing industry based on your own experience? "My advice to anyone considering work in the manufacturing industry is to find a company that manufactures a product that you are passionate about. Believing in the mean- ingfulness and quality of the product will drive you to be more successful within the company." C O M M U N I T Y E N G A G E M E N T
