Drifters Wife named to Bon Appetit's 'Hot 10' In just four years since moving from Brooklyn to open Maine & Loire, a small natural wine shop in Portland, Orenda and Peter Hale have made it to Bon Appétit's "Hot 10" as one of the best new restaurants in the United States. eir Drifters Wife restaurant, at 59 Washington Ave. in Portland, is ranked No. 9 on this year's list. Drifters Wife was one of two Portland restaurants included in the 50 nominees announced earlier this month as being in the running for this year's "Hot 10" list. Rose Foods, a New York-style delica- tessen located at 428 Forest Ave. launched last year by Chad Conley, who co-owns the Palace Diner in Biddeford, was the other restaurant. In its September issue, Bon Appétit also names Portland its "City of the Year." Kozlowski, KeyBank Maine's former market presi- dent, passed away suddenly in June. Portside Real Estate Group in Portland announced the addition of McFarlane Field Associates as part of its ongoing expansion in Southern Maine. Led by Jim McFarlane and Nancy Field, the firm is one of the highest producing real estate teams in Maine, with more than $44 million in sales during the last 12 months. Lewiston firm says shoe deal could quadruple sales Lewiston's M. Leonard International Inc. has been named the exclusive U.S. distributor for Danish footwear maker Sanita Denmark A/S, creator of professional clogs popular with nurses, hospitality workers, teachers and others who spend hours on their feet. "is is a very big deal for M. Leonard," Matt Tracy, president of M. Leonard, told Mainebiz. "is new partnership will effectively quadruple the sales volumes of the company within the first year." While there has been a Sanita distributor in Texas for the last six years, Tracy and his new Danish partner see a "much broader, untapped potential" for the brand in this country and want to expand its reputation "as the hardest-working clog on the market." After Sanita's current U.S. distributor winds down operations this fall, M. Leonard International will take over next year, starting with Sanita's spring/summer 2019 collection. Bull Moose bets big on books Bull Moose, the Maine-based seller of movies, music, games and toys, sees a bright future in books. is fall, the retail chain will open its eighth store, with a large book section, inside the Lewiston Mall, where it's had a presence since June 1996. Bull Moose, founded in 1989 in Brunswick by Brett Wickard during his junior year at Bowdoin College, has 150 employ- ees and 12 stores in Maine and New Hampshire. e larger Lewiston Mall location, formerly occupied by Pet Life, but vacant for some time, will triple Bull Moose's space inside the shopping center to 8,000 square feet, with a quarter of that devoted to books. "Every store we have opened since 2000 has included as many books as we could fit," Chris Brown, Bull Moose's chief financial officer, told Mainebiz. Sunday River Resort in Newry said its current renovation will lay the founda- tion to double the water capacity that can be pumped to the ski area from its water source, thereby making snow more quickly and efficiently.
