16 Hartford Business Journal • August 6, 2018 • www.HartfordBusiness.com W ith more than 15 years of experience within the transmission and distribu- tion industry, Jason Cabral leads a regional transmission and distribution team in the Northeast for Burns & McDonnell, an engineering, architecture, construction and consulting firm. He manages 80 project managers, engineers and technical professionals supporting more than 50 projects across the country. He has grown his team by 20 percent and increased revenue to more than $22 million since 2017. Cabral has managed some of the largest, multibillion-dollar electric reliability projects in the country, helping major utilities provide safer, more reliable energy. What's been the biggest professional accomplishment so far in your career? I served as program manager for FirstEnergy's $1 billion large transmission project program and grew a team of four to over 80 project managers, schedulers, engineers, cost analysts and construc- tion representatives within 12 months. The team assembled a vast program management model for FirstEnergy. Because of the success of the pro- gram and trusted relationship with the client, they turned to Burns & McDonnell for a more than $5 billion initiative called Energizing the Future. How are you involved in the community? I volunteer and support organizations across the Northeast alongside my team. I've helped rally more than 60 colleagues to volunteer monthly at the Connecticut Food Bank. I also support Boys & Girls Club of Meriden, specifi- cally its robotics program. My team and I visit the organization weekly to mentor students. What do you like to do outside of work? Outside of work, you'll catch me spending time with my wife and three children and going to their various activities. I'm a big New York Gi- ants fan so you can often find me at the games. I also love to fish and spend time outdoors. What must the Greater Hartford region do to attract more talented young professionals? We need to continue increasing investment in STEM initiatives so the Greater Hartford area can position itself as a leading technological and up-and-coming region.
