14 Hartford Business Journal • August 6, 2018 • www.HartfordBusiness.com Our international presence is also vibrant at the world-renowned Connecticut Joint Replacement Institute (CJRI) at Saint Francis. This summer, an orthopedic surgeon and an anesthesiologist from Saint Vincent's Hospital in Melbourne, Australia, interested in starting up a rapid recovery total joint program within their own hospital, visited CJRI in order to learn cutting edge anesthesia and pain management techniques from our own Dr. Sanjay Sinha. At the local level, innovation is tangible at our Connecticut Institute for Primary Care Innovation (CIPCI), located on our main Saint Francis campus. The institute, running eight years strong, was founded as a collaborative enterprise between Saint Francis and the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. Today, CIPCI partners with the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) presenting a two story high exhibit displaying the concept of what a primary care ofce of the future looks and feels like at their annual, national Family Medical Experience (FME) conference. We know, however, that a patient's needs go well beyond clinical care and medical practices. Saint Francis' mission-driven, patient-centered approach to health care motivates our efforts to also offer education and learning opportunities to our community spiritual leaders. Born from our partnership with The Mercy Community, Saint Francis provides Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE), an unparalleled, interfaith, professional education program for theology students, clergy of all faiths, and more. Saint Francis is also proudly one of the few hospitals nationwide who play host to a unique administrative fellowship opportunity within the Trinity Health system. The Trinity Health fellowship program provides a rare learning opportunity for those seeking personal growth in management responsibilities, particularly in nonprot healthcare organizations. In totality, educational engagement and relationships are a critical means to make a difference in the lives of our staff, our patients and their families, and the communities we reside alongside. stfranciscare.org Partners in Caring Academically Interconnected We've all heard it before, "knowledge is power," but here at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center this is not just a phrase, rather words to live by. Education improves the quality of life of an individual, bettering an organization as a whole, in turn enhancing its surrounding society. It is this mindset that ensures Saint Francis remains grounded in our long-standing history to be one with the communities we serve, in particular with our academic partners. Learning is an ongoing process, especially in today's fast-changing health care environment. Saint Francis continues our ongoing commitment to developing the next generation of nurses, doctors, clinicians, administrative leaders, chaplains, and beyond, through a multitude of educational programs. From learning the most advanced surgical techniques to establishing global partnerships, Saint Francis and our regional afliates remain at the forefront of health care in New England. Our long standing teaching partnerships with medical schools in the New England region are the foundation to maintaining excellence in medical education. Saint Francis is privileged to work closely with several area colleges and universities, including the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University, the School of Health Sciences at Quinnipiac University, and the University of Saint Joseph's School of Pharmacy and Physician Assistant Studies, to name a few. All of our programs demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and dedicated support for research in a vibrant clinical environment. Globally, exciting educational relationships continue to form allowing Saint Francis' reach to expand and evolve. Recently, the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University and Mount Sinai Rehabilitation Hospital, also a Trinity Health Of New England provider, partnered with the University of Oxford—home to the top ranked Medical Sciences program, according to Times Higher Education World University Rankings—on a new clinical neuroscience exchange program. The partnership provides an extraordinary opportunity for local and exchange medical students to immerse themselves in the rich learning experience related to neuroscience, clinical neurology, and our internationally recognized Joyce D. and Andrew J. Mandell Center for Comprehensive Multiple Sclerosis Care and Neuroscience Research. John Rodis, M.D. President Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center
