Holmes Realty — Compiled by Zachary Comeau, WBJ staff writer Worcester County luxury homes outpacing sin- gle-family homes Sales of Worcester County homes valued at least $1 million increased by 50 percent in June compared to June 2017, Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage said. Despite the deep pockets needed to shell out more than $1 million for a home, the time on market drastically outpaces non-luxury homes, which have been on the market for at least a median of 61 days for the past three years. Worcester's first pot dis- pensary to open Aug. 2 Good Chemistry, a Colorado-based company, was approved to open its med- ical marijuana dispensary in the Canal District at 9 Harrison St. in Worcester. e state Department of Public Health approval came aer the Worcester Board of Health approved the local license. e company said it's looking at Aug. 2 for an official opening date to sell med- ical marijuana only, though the compa- ny said it will apply for a license from the Cannabis Control Commission to operate a recreational dispensary. It will be the first medical dispensary to open in Worcester since the law legalizing the medical use was approved in 2012. Gardner chamber names new president & CEO e Greater Gardner Chamber of Commerce has named a marketing and fundraising expert as its new president and CEO. Temple- ton resident Carol Jacobson assumed the position July 9, replacing Jim Bel- lina, who le early last month due to a family illness. Jacobson spent time in the corpo- rate and healthcare world, taking a va- riety of marketing and fundraising roles with Nypro, UMass Memorial Health Care, Mount Wachusett Community College and, most recently, the Reliant Foundation. WPI president named to science foundation panel Worcester Polytechnic Institute President Laurie Leshin was named to a National Science Foundation panel to encourage scientific and technological innovation in education. Leshin was one of 18 new members, including others from scientific organizations. Technetics closing Oxford site, laying off 97 workers Gas turbine component manufacturer Technetics will lay off 97 workers by the end of August when it closes its Oxford facility. e South Carolina company, a subsidiary of North Carolina-based En- pro Industries, said market conditions were driving the closure. Remaining manufacturing operations will be consolidated at other U.S. loca- tions in South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas, California and Florida.
