Owned by the Hartford Sports Group (HSG), the Hartford Athletic will join the United Soccer League in 2019 alongside five other expansion teams in Austin and El Paso, Texas; Memphis, Tenn.; Albuquerque, NM; and Birmingham, Ala. HSG President Bruce Mandell said several games will also air on ESPN. Formed in 2011, the USL, which is sanctioned as a Division II pro soccer league, currently has 33 teams across the nation. Clubs are located in major cities including Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Seattle, Phoenix, St. Louis, Nashville, Orlando, Pittsburgh and New York, among others in Canada. Meantime, the State Bond Commission approved $10 million earlier this year to fund a makeover of Dillon Stadium, which will seat 6,000 fans and play home to the Hartford Athletic. In a recent filing with the SEC, Woven, which makes gripping sleeves for orthopedic bone screws, disclosed it raised almost $364,000 in June after receiving more than $905,900 in February. CT housing posted moderate growth in '17 Connecticut's housing market grew slower than expected last year largely due to modest economic growth, according to the state Department of Labor (DOL). The latest monthly issue of Connecticut Economic Digest says municipalities in 2017 approved 4,547 permits for single- and multifamily housing valued at $1.18 billion. That represents a 17.4 percent and 25.2 percent decrease, respectively, vs. 2016 and 2015. Permits for single-family dwellings surpassed those for multifamilies with five or more units. The labor agency says more than 54 percent of housing permits were for single-families, while 42 percent were multifamilies. Lackluster growth in jobs, personal income and gross state product contributed to the poor housing market, DOL said. W.
