CORP., STOW Residence: Stow Colleges: Georgia Institute of Technology, Clark University On the ground, in the dirt, the development of Central Massachusetts physically happens through Colosi, whose 165-employee company constructs the roads, bridges, airports, dams, bike paths, landfills and developments for the public. For the $160-million, 475,000-square-foot Apex Center in Marlborough – one of the largest residential/retail/hotel developments in the region – E. T. & L. was there, running the site excavation for $11 million. Colosi has been doing this for 30 years now, taking over the 73-year-old business from her father back in 1988. She is a charter member of the Greater Worcester chapter of National Association of Women in Construction. Her company gives out a scholarship to a construction major each year, to continue the flow of talent into the industry. What advice would you give up-and-comers? Have passion in what you do, be persistent and willing to go beyond where others stop. Passed down: I collect Depression glass, the pink, green, amber and clear glassware given out at the movies and by food manufacturers in boxes of food in the 1930's. My mother collected Depression glass, and I have enjoyed continuing to collect it. ANTHONY CONSIGLI CEO CONSIGLI CONSTRUCTION CO., INC., MILFORD Residence: Milford College: Harvard University e head of Central Massachusetts' largest commercial contractor – with $1.2 billion in 2017 revenue, 975 employees and seven offices along the East Coast – Anthony and brother Matthew are the fourth generation to lead the family-owned construction firm, founded in 1905. More than 150 Consigli employees live in Worcester County, including Anthony. e company has taken on huge projects in recent years, including the building of the new Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. and a $180-million, 218,000-square-foot complex at State University of New York at Albany. e Consigli Foundation has given away hundreds of grants to Central Mass. nonprofits, including Habitat for Humanity, American Red Cross, Nativity School of Worcester and Girls Inc. What advice would you give up-and-comers? Whatever your career path is, make sure you do great work and not just good work, create raving fans of both coworkers and clients, and above all else, do what you say you are going to do. MURRAY PRESIDENT & CEO WORCESTER REGIONAL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, WORCESTER Residence: Worcester Colleges: Fordham University, Western New England University Murray's role as president and CEO of the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce is just the latest in his career-long endeavor helping to fight for the city and its region. e former city councilor and mayor was a two-term lieutenant governor for the Deval Patrick Administration, and has used his connections and know-how to help Worcester-area businesses thrive as the head of the chamber since 2013. e effort included an attempt at landing Amazon's second headquarters, but it more oen entails seeking opportunities for investment and job growth though efforts like more business-friendly tax rates or legislation, or better investments in commuter rail. e $565-million CitySquare downtown Worcester revitalization was his brainchild. Murray serves on the board of trustees at Anna Maria College in Paxton. What advice would you give up-and-comers? Read the daily and weekly newspapers and business journals to expand your knowledge of the issues, people, opportunities, and challenges where you live and work. Try to be a good listener. SHERRI GREENE PITCHER VICE PRESIDENT OF BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT FIDELITY BANK, WORCESTER Residence: Worcester College: Fairfield University in Connecticut When Fidelity Bank in Fitchburg decided a year ago it wanted to expand its presence in Worcester, the bank tabbed Pitcher – then the senior director of business development for the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce – to make all the economic and community connections necessary to turn the expansion into a success. Now, the bank is on the verge of opening its second full-service Worcester branch, this one in downtown aer debuting the first on Shrewsbury Street. While Pitcher makes an impact from her countless connections and involvement in the community, her true talent lies in the understanding of how these business connections come together and developments grow from concept to reality, having been on the influential Economic Development Coordinating Council with city and business officials. She is a longtime member of the United Way's Women's Initiative and serves on boards for organizations like Family Services of Central Massachusetts Board, the EcoTarium, the Worcester Community Action Council, the Hanover eatre and the Worcester Art Museum. What advice would you give up-and-comers? Care about yourself, care about others, care about your community. Be kind. Be sincere. Get involved. That's 157 miles: I have run in six marathons. I have run Boston twice, Houston, San Francisco, Burlington, Vt. and Chicago. None of my finishing times were fast, but I finished them all!
