For the sixth consecutive year, Worcester Business Journal was honored as one of the best business journals by its
main industry association - the Alliance of Area Business Publishers -- representing publications from U.S., Canada
and Australia. is year, AABP honored WBJ with five awards, including naming WBJ the Second Best Overall Small
Newspaper, beating out publications from Detroit, New Orleans and Minneapolis/St. Paul.
e four other awards from 2017 content were:
n First Place for Best Investigative Reporting - For the story "Hit &
Miss: Despite company shortcomings, Worcester kept tax breaks in place"
by Grant Welker about the mixed results of the city's economic incentive
efforts. The judges praised Welker's use of public records.
n First Place for Best Recurring Feature - For the Shop Talk Q&A
feature by Brad Kane appearing on the back inside cover of every print
issue. The awards judges said these interviews with area business
leaders reveal much about their character and style.
n First Place for Best Editorial - For the WBJ Editorial Board's opinion
piece "Berkshire, you should have picked Worcester" about Berkshire
Bank's decision to move its headquarters to Boston from Pittsfield after
buying Worcester's Commerce Bank.
n Second Place in Best Overall Design - For Mitch Hayes' designs
and layouts in the print editions. The judges praised attractive, attention-
getting covers, diversity of charts, and good use of color and typography.
